Philadelphia 76ers Can’t Handle New York Knicks

11/4/12 – Sunday's matinee matchup was between the Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks. In the first game of a home and home series, the Knicks were too much for the Sixers rolling to an easy 100-84 victory. Philly was flat from the get-go and trailed from early in the 1st quarter on. Offensively they were sluggish and defensively they were worse. The Knicks had no problems shredding the Sixers defense, creating easy buckets for Carmelo Anthony, J.R. Smith, Raymond Felton and others. A few indicators of how the Sixers let the game get away include: losing the turnover battle (PHI 18 – NYK 15), bad defense on some premier scorers (Melo 27, Smith 20), and shooting a dismal 43% from the field.

The two bright spots for the Sixers were Jrue Holiday and Thad Young. Jrue had a good shooting night and Thad played his usual 'balls-to-the-wall' role exceptionally. Hawes got in foul trouble early and never was much of a factor. Jason Richardson also went down early and wouldn't return after stepping on a cameraman's foot underneath the rim. Reports are that he rolled his ankle and may miss a game or two. All in all it was a real lackluster performance for the Sixers. To give the Knicks some credit, they do look very good right now 2 games in after having beat the defending champion Heat and now Philly. As for the Sixers they will get another shot at the Knicks tomorrow night and will look for some revenge for Sunday's beat down at the Wells Fargo Center. Evan Turner and Swag P Nick Young need to play a lot better if the Sixers want to have a chance.
